Who Doesn't Like Guacamole?
Two more days left of school for the boys. We can do this! Max just asked me to make a marble pound cake for his teacher. Ya gotta love the last minute requests. I guess I know what I'm doing today! It's a good think I love being in the kitchen. I have a feeling though that this is a slight ploy for me to make one for the house too. I can never send things out without having a tester too. So, today is a cake day.

Sorry about the food photography right now. It's not good at all. I'm trying to figure out this point and shoot camera. I like some of the shots is takes, but I can't figure the light out. It seems to pull light in, which you would think would be good, but it's not working for food. These tomatoes are incredible in person, but the camera really grabs the red.

This meal totally brightened my morning though!
Two over easy eggs (I put a lid on the skillet so I don't have to turn them over),

with fresh spinach

diced tomatoes

fresh cilantro

over toasted socca...oh and hot sauce (I almost forgot)!

You know what would make this that much better...

Guacamole!

Well, for everyone except me...I wish I liked the stuff (bet you didn't see that one coming), but I just don't. It looks and smells so good, but the texture and flavor just gross me out. The boys love it though!

Nobody understands why I don't like avocados. I get that question all the time (Alisa and Tony I'm pointing at you two). With this combination, how can you not like it? Right? What is wrong with me?

Guacamole
(makes about 3 cups)

2 avocados, peeled and mashed
1 cup diced tomato
2 TBSP scallions, sliced
1 TBSP fresh cilantro, chopped
1/4 tsp Kosher salt
fresh ground black pepper

Mix everything together until combined.

Is there a food that you should like, but just don't? Please tell me I'm not alone in this!

Love using socca as side bread/toast! And I can't stand guac....or avocados for that matter. I know avocados are supposed to be so healthy, but I just can't get past the texture. I also hate watermelon and cucumbers. Oh, make that any melon really. I almost never order fruit salad out b/c it's ruined with melons ;-)

I think your pictures look fantastic. The boys get out early! The kids here are stuck in school until the end of June.

It's ok. It's just like how I don't like tomato except in marinara form. It always looks so refreshing to me when it's all sliced/diced on salads. But never have I actually enjoyed it...

    I absolutely love guac!

One food that everyone seems to like except for me is coconut. I hate the texture and taste -- but I love the smell.

So funny - my mom dislikes avocados but makes the best guacamole, too. :) I feel like I should like celery but I most definitely don't. Blech.

Haha, when I saw the title I shouted (in my head of course - lest my Tony think I'm even crazier than I am) "You Don't!"

I do "get" it though. I didn't like avocados at all until my late 20's, and I still think it looks yucky :)

I don't really like guacamole. LOVE avocado but prefer regular salsa for dipping over guac.

That is so sweet that he wanted to bake his teacher something! I lived for students who showed appreciation like that. Too bad you're the one having to do the work for it though.

This is how I make my guac! I haven't had any in ages though because this spring is too dang cold and it just wouldn't feel right. Looks delicious.

Strange how some folks like avacados, but do not enjoy guac. We all have different taste-buds + palate pleasers obviously.

Last month I had a huge argument w/an old-timer gal-pal. Yeah. Childish I know ..... but, she kept dissin me re my dislike for meat. Pork specifically. The continued teasing was gettin on my nerves. I told her to grow up. Eat more avacados + guac. Hard to believe folks can actually fight about food. Duh-us.

Pass the guac + chips + salsa + scrambled eggs please!!!

    THANKS ~ : )

I love guacamole! But I hate hardboiled eggs. I have tried to like them (and like eggs other ways). People always try to convince me when I tell them :)

I totally get your guacamole aversion. I'm the same with tomatoes. As an Italian, I feel like the mother country will disown me for admitting this, but I cannot make myself like tomatoes! I have tried with different cooking methods, different varieties, but I always come to the same conclusion.

I definitely did not see your lack of avocado love coming!! LOL But that breakfast definitely looks UNBELIEVABLE!!! That would start my day out perfectly. Now I know what I might be making tomorrow morning! Good luck getting through the last 2 days of school! ;)

For a little bit I felt like the singled-out kid in class who is too afraid to raise their hand - I hate guac, too! And avocadoes. Glad you're the same :P
Now, I will say I enjoyed them the time I've made them into a mousse - but not savory!

You are the perfect person to go out for Mexican with bc I could always have your guacamole.
Perhaps my standards for forming friendships need to be re-evaluated... I'd totally share my margarita with you though to make it even.

I think the photos look nice.

I don't like asparagus or bbq flavored stuff which everyone thinks is weird.
