Finger Foods!
This weekend proved to put us in our place again. We got up early on Saturday, felt great about the day, Tony worked on the garage and yard, while I cleaned the house (even mopped and did laundry). I went to the bank and as I was coming home...the check engine light came on. Nice. Tony took it to the little shop we get our oil changed at, they hooked it up for diagnostics and it's the transmission. So, Tony is taking it to the dealer today to deal with that mess. It could be worse, but we were planning on going to TN for 5 days for a little spring break vacation at Tony's parents' place. Instead, we are working per usual. Oh well, hopefully it won't be as bad as we think. ***fingers crossed***

We decided to keep things fun with food since the boys spent the entire day outside Saturday due to the weather being incredible! I love finger foods for dinner because you can kind of build your own and it makes things a little less structured.

I made crackers with my pizzelle maker! I came up with this little brain child when I was trying to figure out how to make crackers for the illustrator.

(you can see the black pepper in it!)

We did a cracked black pepper cracker...

and a plain cracker.

I also made hummus, popped open a can of artichoke hearts, sauteed up some kale (super fast, salt and pepper...I like it less cooked...aka not country style) and I sliced up some carrots.

(artichoke, hummus and sauteed kale...yum!)

The illustrator made tuna salad (2 cans of Trader Joe's tuna, mayonnaise, salt and pepper)...

if you don't know this about me now, I HATE mayonnaise. The smell gags me. The boys love it! See this is why finger foods works so well.

So, dinner Saturday night was really fun. Do you do finger foods for dinner? What's your favorite one to do at home.

Have a great Monday everyone! I am planning on baking since I did not get to that this weekend. I need to bake something...it's my form of yoga.

Hope nothing major is wrong with the car. I know the feeling - my car is 10 years old.

I don't like mayo on things but don't mind it in a tuna salad as long as there isn't a lot of it.

Great idea to use the pizzele maker! Another mayo hater right here, too. And yeah, it's the smell that gets me, makes me nauseous.

I really like the new miracle whip ad campaign that addresses this- most people either really really love it or really really hate it. Not much of an inbetween!

oh my -- one thing I've been aching to try is gluten free pizelles...I'm all italian and miss those anise flavored crispy crackers. Some day, some day.

I hate mayo too. It reminds me of bird turd.

I hope everything works out with the car. If it's not one thing it's another isn't it?

Yes every once in a while we'll have finger foods and watch a movie -- crackers, hummus, chips, guacamole, little sandwiches, cut up fruit, veggies, etc.

    Your crackers are so beautiful!

And baking helps ground me, too. Don't know what about it that is so calming but it works every time!

Gah, sorry about the car, Sarena!

I love finger food dinners - my favorite involves hummus, crackers, cheese, carrots and bell pepper. Mmmm...

I'm the same - used to love mayo, but can't take it now. Tomato basil hummus actually takes on that same tarty taste, but without the goopy fatty gross feeling.

Good luck with the car! :-)

oh, girl, definitely crossing fingers that everything goes smooth and it's a SMALL car thing. (bill)

we LOVE to eat appetizer type things for dinner... when Jason and I were first dating years ago, I would make a salad and we'd go get a bottle of wine, a baguette and some brie. we did that a lot :)

now I'll still make a salad and a hummus or salsa... I LOVE that you made pizzelle crackers - how fun!

Great idea on the crackers, Sarena! I love finger foods. We're having some tonight ... calamari, chicken fingers, and more--all leftovers. :-) Ugh on the transmission ... hoping for the best! Just dropped $500 on hubby's truck and son's car on Friday ... that was painful enough. I want vehicles that run nonstop with no costs! A girl can dream, right? ;-)

What a great idea for the crackers! I love finger foods. I shouldn't admit it, but most of my life is about finger foods rather than "dinners"...it just works!

I hate mayo too---ick! It's so...weird and gross and stinky!

In all honesty, I love to eat veggies with my hands hehe. Could you please post the cracker recipe? I have a pazelle maker and think it would be SO fun to make a savory "cookie".

    Have a lovely day!

Ugh, mayonnaise. I hear you on that one. The smell and the sound weirds me out. Yes, the sound. Shudder.
The crackers look awesome. Using the pizelle maker - so clever!! I think my mom still has hers from way back when; I'll need to give that a shot instead of tediously cutting each one.
Yay for finger foods, too. I love little tasting plates ;) Fingers crossed the car troules aren't bad after all! Vehicles are so frustrating :/

I'm right there with you on the mayo front, I've never liked it and even as a kid I wouldn't touch the mayo jar because it could have some kind of greasy film on it!

I can't believe you have a pizzelle maker, how fun!

I like mayo, and finger food nights. Last one was homemade nachos ... tasty.

Wow- I'm usually sort of opposed to "unitools" in the kitchen, as I call them, for storage reasons, but if the pizelle maker makes crackers or cookies that pretty, I might have to change my mind. Nicely done!
