My remedy for heat exhaustion!
Where to begin?  I am so glad it is Friday.  Thursday was kind of an exhausting stinker.  I blame the heat on all of it, so when the sun set, things got better!  The illustrator and I are really getting into the groove with walking and I am loving it.  I asked him last night if we were walking in the morning and he said, "Um yeah, it is the highlight of my day".  That completely made my day!

I promised to take the kids to the water park yesterday and I was happy to do it.  Even though they are boys, apparently there are fashion rules that I was unaware of.  Just in case you did not know, there is a certain length the swim trunks should be.  Who knew.  Well, the ones they wanted to wear were wet.  Well, after much debate and wanting to get to the water park before it got too hot, I said "whatever" and they wore wet trunks.  I went with the intention of going for a few hours and then coming back by around 1:00 or 1:30. That way we could have lunch at home and we wouldn't be so exhausted.  You see, it is 15 minutes away and if I could get the boys to understand that if we go for 3 hours or so, then we would go more often.  That way it would not be exhausting.  Well, I was feeling generous and not only did I buy them an ice cream (for a crazy price mind you), I agreed to letting them each pick two more slides to go on.  That means four!  Well, with the heat and exhaustion, there was a fight between the two of them on the last slide.  UGH!  Not only that, but we did not get home until 3:00.  Um, yes, that would be way after lunch time.
As hot as I was, this was lunch!  Yes, I ate yours and my quota of fruit in one meal.  I am not good with hunger...kinda like a monster!
Apples and cantaloupe...hit the spot.  I couldn't think of hot food.  I wanted something cool and crisp!
Strange aside...I like the part closest to the rind.  Max likes the middle and I like the outside. We make a great eating team.
The illustrator read my mind because there was a huge pitcher of unsweetened iced tea waiting for me when I got home!
The dinner plans for last night were red beans and rice.  However, I was not in the mood for heavy!  The illustrator  had also left a little hint on the counter for something he wanted me to make soon.  Can you guess what it is?
plus this...(I wonder if garlic keeps the nasty kid moods away like it does vampires?)
and a lot of this...
all mixed up in here...
heck yeah, it is hummus night!
Yes, I ate this whole thing and it was the perfect fuel from my mentally and physically exhausting day!  Wait...it needed one more thing...
hot sauce!  Ok, so it needed some Falafel Chips too, but I was all out.  I am going to have to fix that problem this weekend.  Max and I had to arm wrestle for the last of them...sadly, he won.  I realized later that the fight at the park, was totally from heat exhaustion and I need to make sure that we go for a certain amount of time.  So, I take the blame for it.

Ok, one more thing.  I feel like I need to get this off of my chest.  After going to the water park a couple of times, I have a few requests for others.

1.  At no point is a white tank top or white shorts a good substitute for a bathing suit!
2.  Always pay the few extra dollars for the lined bathing suit.  Seriously, it is worth it for all concerned.
3.  Dude, either buy a suit with a liner or wear underwear...my kids are here!

haha hilarious "rules" you made...completely agree...but I do have a very well lined white crochet bikini that I adore...definitely a tad sexy for say, a water park though!

That hummus looks so good! Hot sauce is the perfect addition!

Oh I bet everyone was completely exhausted so grumpy fights make sense! Sounds like it was a good day though. How fantastic that your hubby enjoys the walks too! What a nice way to start the day. Ok, your rules totally crack me up. They should definitely be posted up at all water parks ;-)

I'm having hummus envy! Still haven't unpacked our kitchen since I'm painting it this weekend, so it's been weeks since I made anything. :(

Definitely agree with you on the swimsuit rules! Also, ladies if you are struggling with your bikini covering the girls when you are just standing around, chances are things will not be so good when you jump in the water...

How sweet of the illustrator to say his walk with you is the highlight of his day...... awwwwwwwwwww!!! That is SO sweet!! :)

It's been forever since I've been to a water park. We used to go to Lake Lanier's water park ALL the time when I was a kid. Love your water park "rules" haha! :)

I normally am too shy to comment, but this post, for a variety of reasons, absolutely cracked me up.

    1) I thought that I was the only one who could devour a whole cantaloupe or a huge quarter of watermelon. The edges of the melons are the BEST. Go green :) I think it's safe to say that I fill my fruit quota for the day...three times over...

    2) I'm pretty sure that a food monster lurks within me as well.

    3) Cumin. Garlic. Garbanzos. Talk about a major love fest. I adore ANYTHING with those ingredients.

    4) Giganto-mongous salads, yay!! My family always makes fun of me for it, but big salads are seriously the way to go.

    5) The last time I went to a water park, I spent 12 hours there. I consider myself scarred for life.

As a side note, I'm not a big salad dressing fan either and have been thinking about trying hot sauce instead. What brand do you use?

Sorry for such a long comment!

haha you didn't know about the short-length rule?? Apparently there's a fine line between "girly short" and "hoodlum baggy."

    And I agree...wear a line bathing suit please :D

Oh I used to love water parks. But you're right- they are totally exhausting and sooo overpriced. I love the foods you ate to refuel and rehydrate- similar to things I'd choose- lots of freshness and water-filled fare. Love it.

Hope you have a lovely weekend!

bahaha, you're lucky I'm all done with my iced coffee, or I'd have snorted it all over my keyboard. You are too funny ;)
I'm glad you've been having lovely mornings. Isn't it the best part of the day?! I love being at the barn at that time, and have been thinking I ought to start walking in the mornings again, too. And, can totally relate to the heat bringing about exhausting and crankiness. I think I was the same yesterday. I was ready for bed by 8:30! Hope today was cooler for you :)

    your last 3 points LMAO!

"Just in case you did not know, there is a certain length the swim trunks should be. Who knew. "--I KNEW it Unschooling park day kids at the beach last summer. Even homeschooled kids are "socialized" (tongue in cheek!) to know the trunk stuff. But there is no way a mom would know this stuff!

Seeing any see-thru suits like you had to edure..eww. Not pleasant!

I love your rules. I need to show them to my boyfriend because he refuses to wear underwear to the beach. I think his suit is lined though...

I love walks. Great way to start the day!
