Perfect Saturday!
Where in the world did Saturday go?  I am not complaining because it was a great day, but it flew by!  We had lunch plans with some of our favorite family members!  I was so looking forward to seeing them since it has been way too long!  We had to get up early to clean up the commune (the bedding all being downstairs while waiting on the AC to get fixed upstairs) and to get the pork shoulder in the oven.  We all pitched in and got things straightened up.  The pork shoulder was a little different from the ones we have cooked before, it still had the skin on it.  We thought it would cook up similar to the others, but it was a little different.  While I was told it was good, the illustrator would have rather had the cut that pulled apart like BBQ.  So, I won't buy this cut again.
We also had a nice salad...
With tomatoes, cucumber and hummus...
and baked potatoes...
I didn't want them to go!  It was such a nice afternoon!  I was totally in my zen place!  I can't wait until the next time we get together with them!
Lauren chased our kitties around...
Luke wants that lizard so badly!  He can't have him though.  Only for looks!  The lizard does push ups in the sun.  It is so funny to watch him.  I think he is trying to woo the ladies!
Leia is just sitting all pretty!  It really is what she does best!  My cousin Lauren took all the photos from the lunch we had together (everything above).  She is going to school for photography after next year...she has such an incredible talent and I love her work!  She has an Etsy shop too!
Then we got a call from our friends who wanted to know if we would be interested in going to pick some strawberries!  I love doing this and it has been so long since I did it last.  We were only going to get a gallon, but decided we would go ahead and get 2 gallons since we were there and we could freeze some!  I have already eaten about half a gallon, so I am not sure it there will be many left for freezing!  I am making a gluten free angel food cake today with seven minute icing and fresh sliced strawberries.  I will definitely report on that tomorrow!  I am also putting some of those strawberries to use in some strawberry ice cream!
We then went for a bite to eat at a local pub by the strawberry patch.  That was entertaining!  It was beautiful outside!  The sun was bright, there was a nice breeze...perfect!  By the end it was a little chili, but that was ok with me since that means it would not be blazing hot in the house today!
Since it was a local pub, they did not carry gluten free beers, so the illustrator went for a hard cider.  Not really what he was looking for, but at least they had something for him to drink with his wings!
For me, I ate the double veggies!
I love going out with friends.  I have finally gotten to the point where I am not embarrassed to just eat the veggies when I go to places like this!  I would rather eat the carrots and celery then order a salad with nothing on it and just end up with lettuce for $9.  I really enjoyed going out last night.  It was unexpected and very enjoyable!  We ended the night with a movie with the boys...what a great day!

I hope all the mothers out there are enjoying there weekend too!  Happy Mother's Day!  I love you mom and I miss you!!!

Sarena, your post made me happy. I love the pictures and the sentiment of summertime and contentment that radiated through it. Picking strawberries and spending such a great time with your loved ones is pure pleasure. And I love how comfortable you are with yourself and the way you eat. THe fact that you feel free to order whatever you want without any feelings of discomfort. Love that!

Happy MOther's Day! You are a great mom and blogger, enjoy it!

Sooo glad you had such a great day yesterday, Sarena!! You totally deserve it after the AC craziness and what we last heard about the illustrator's frustrations :( Glad everything's getting better down there :)
Strawberry picking - I cannot WAIT to go! My mom and I go multiple times a year, at the time always thinking we'll have more than enough. You know - strawberry shortcakes, fun snacks, and plenty to freeze, too. Uh, not so much, haha. What I'm even more excited for is blueberry picking, though! The angel food cake sounds stellar, can't wait for the post :)
    Happy Mother's Day!!

I am so with you on not paying $9 for a bowl of typically bad lettuce. Sounds like you had a super great day. Cannot wait to see the cake recipe. I am a big time strawberry fan!

I love that everyone is going strawberry picking. I suppose I should go find a strawberry field and get my fruit on.
